High capacity Ajax Equipment Agitated Screw Feeders expand chemical production

Solids handling specialist, Ajax Equipment, has supplied one of Europe’s leading fine chemical manufacturers with two agitated screw feeders and a screw conveyor to expand production. Each stainless steel agitated screw feeder is designed to handle batches of 9m3 of centrifuge product inside the barrel-shaped hopper section.

As part of the design process, Ajax conducted multiple powder flow property tests in its lab in Bolton, UK. The results showed that to provide the performance desired a special profile of agitator was needed within the hopper as well as a LynFlow™ ribbon screw to serve the length of the hopper. The tests also helped establish important parameters like the required drive power. In keeping with the operational requirements, the equipment was also pressure tight and ATEX rated.

“With a capacity for several tonnes, these are the largest agitated screw feeders Ajax Equipment has produced. Agitated screw feeders are well suited to maintaining the condition of materials that are inherently susceptible to arching such as filter cake or fine cohesive powders,” commented Eddie McGee, managing director, Ajax Equipment.
